Message from Our CEO- January 2018

Dear Member-Owner, 

On behalf of the employees, management team and Board of Directors for Cabrillo Credit Union, I would like to wish you and your family a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. It is our goal to help you make 2018 your best year yet, by helping you build a strong and valuable portfolio of financial products and services.

With the dawning of this New Year, it’s a fitting time to begin rolling out a new strategy for Cabrillo…one that has been created for you, our member-owners.

To that end, we have some really exciting plans in store for you in 2018, including more free tools, resources and access points, to make managing your personal finances even easier.

We also have a new mission statement- To enrich the lives of our member-owners, one relationship at a time. We believe this mission exemplifies our commitment to you, captures the heart of our organization, and solidifies our purpose.

In the coming weeks you will receive communications from me, as we share more about our mission, as well as our plans for 2018, and beyond. 

In the meantime, I would like to share a few of the exciting things we achieved together in 2017.

I am very proud to report we’re coming off of a record year of member transactions and strong loan growth. New members continue to join the Cabrillo family, as a direct result of your recommendations. 

We appreciate you making these recommendations for your family and friends to join Cabrillo, because as we grow, we have more resources to reinvest back into our cooperative, in the form of better rates, greater access to our employees, products and services, and strengthening our operations.

For example, during this past year we made significant improvements to eBranch. We rolled out an improved Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) product, for home remodeling or debt consolidation. We helped enrich the lives of thousands of members, by financing their homes and helping them purchase vehicles...all while saving them even more money, by meeting or beating their rates from other Credit Unions or Banks. 

We launched our Pay a Friend service, where members can send money to a cell phone number or email address. Our Prestige credit card rewards program was revamped to give members options on how they choose to cash in their rewards points. Plus, we also added a rewards component on our Debit card, thanks to a partnership with ShopSPOT, a nationwide shopping incentive provider.

In 2017 we supported, sponsored and participated in over 100 member activities and events for the US Border Patrol, Sharp HealthCare and the San Diego community. Our involvement has not only brought the Cabrillo team a strong sense of fulfillment and pride, but we feel fortunate to be part of an organization that gives so much back to the communities we serve.

As an example, our 22,000 members raised over $47,000 this year for the Miracle Month of May for Rady Children's Hospital. We assisted our own membership groups with financial support for a wide variety of special events and philanthropic endeavors, including setting up a Memorial Fund to assist the family of Fallen US Border Patrol Agent Rogelio “Roger” Martinez, who died in the line of duty late in 2017.

Cabrillo Credit Union has thousands of members living in areas recently affected by storms, fires and other natural disasters. We are proud to have been able to assist members affected by these disasters. 

We continue to offer special programs for our sponsor groups, including US Border Patrol and Sharp HealthCare. Employees from these groups with direct deposit to their Cabrillo account receive their pay a day early. We also have other special, free services, including our Payroll Assurance Loan (PAL), which provides a line of credit to certain federal employees and their families, who are worried about a possible government shutdown.  

In the weeks to come, we will be announcing new programs, created and developed to better serve your needs. It is our hope that these new programs will assist in contributing to your personal and financial health and well-being. 

We had an excellent 2017 and are excited about this year. Please join me in our pledge to work together to maintain our high level of excellence in service and member support, from the dedicated team you have come rely on for your financial needs.
